
Built in 1879 and originally located at 212 Kelly Mill Road, the Strickland house moved in front of Jim Mashburn farm.
Dr. Ansel Strickland, a well-known physician and surgeon of Cumming, was born in 1858, but orphaned by the age of five. He attended Atlanta Medical College and graduated in 1881. Not only was Dr. Strickland a surgeon, he was a scientist, Mason, Democrat, and Methodist. He died in 1914 and buried in the Cumming cemetery.
Dr. Strickland’s house later became the residence of Cumming Mayor Ford Gravitt and houses the Chamber of Commerce since 2000. The buildings architecture features a mixture of Italianate and Queen Anne elements.
